At x_O, we respect intellectual property rights and believe that creators should retain ownership and control over their original work.
This Copyright Policy explains how copyright applies to content published on x_O, what rights contributors grant to the platform, how copyrighted material may be used, and how copyright concerns can be reported.
By submitting or publishing content on x_O, you agree to the terms described in this policy and our Terms of Use.
1. Copyright Ownership
Unless otherwise stated, the original author or copyright holder retains ownership of the copyright in any article, photograph, illustration, video, graphic, or other original material submitted to or published on x_O.
Publishing content on x_O does not transfer ownership of that content to the platform.
Authors remain free to:
- Republish their own work on other websites or platforms.
- Distribute or share their work through other channels.
- License their work to other individuals, publishers, or organizations.
- Modify, update, or adapt their original work, subject to any applicable agreements with third parties.
The publication of an article on x_O does not, by itself, prevent its author from using or publishing the same work elsewhere.
2. License Granted to x_O
When you submit content to x_O, you grant the platform a non-exclusive license to use that content for purposes reasonably related to operating, maintaining, presenting, distributing, and promoting the platform.
This license may include the right to:
- Host, store, reproduce, and display your content.
- Publish and distribute your content through x_O and its associated services.
- Format, resize, compress, or make reasonable technical adjustments to your content for compatibility, performance, accessibility, and presentation.
- Make reasonable editorial or formatting changes that do not improperly misrepresent the meaning of your work.
- Display excerpts, previews, titles, or thumbnails to promote or identify your published content.
- Share or distribute links and reasonable excerpts through x_O’s official communication and promotional channels.
- Make technical copies necessary for hosting, security, maintenance, and normal platform operations.
This license is non-exclusive. You retain copyright ownership and may continue to use, publish, distribute, or license your work elsewhere.
The license does not give x_O unrestricted ownership of your work or permission to use it for purposes unrelated to the operation and reasonable promotion of the platform.
3. Duration and Scope of the License
The license generally applies for as long as your content remains published on x_O.
If content is removed following an approved removal request or another applicable process, x_O will stop using it for ordinary public publication and promotion.
Some limited uses or copies may remain necessary for a reasonable period to complete technical removal processes, maintain platform security, address legal obligations, or resolve legitimate disputes.
The existence of such residual technical copies does not mean that x_O intends to continue publishing or promoting the removed content.
4. Content Published by Members
Members are responsible for ensuring that the content they submit does not violate copyright, trademark, or other intellectual property rights belonging to another person or organization.
Before submitting content, make sure that:
- You created the material yourself, or
- You have obtained the necessary permission or license, or
- Your use of the material is otherwise permitted under applicable law.
You should not assume that material available on the internet is free to copy, modify, or republish.
Giving credit to the original creator is important, but attribution alone does not replace permission when permission is legally required.
5. Use of Third-Party Materials
You may include third-party materials in your articles when their use is properly authorized or otherwise legally permitted.
Examples include:
- Photographs and illustrations.
- Videos, audio recordings, and music.
- Screenshots and graphics.
- Charts, tables, and infographics.
- Excerpts from books, articles, websites, or other publications.
- Logos, trademarks, and other protected materials.
When using third-party materials, contributors should:
- Verify the source and applicable usage rights.
- Obtain permission or a suitable license when necessary.
- Follow any attribution, credit, or licensing requirements.
- Provide clear source information where appropriate.
For materials published under Creative Commons or similar licenses, contributors must comply with the specific conditions of the applicable license.
6. Quotations, References, and Attribution
Short quotations or excerpts may be included in articles when permitted by applicable law.
Contributors should clearly identify quoted material and provide appropriate attribution and references.
For news-related articles, commentary, reviews, criticism, and opinion pieces based on external reporting or publications, contributors should provide links or references to relevant sources whenever appropriate.
Attribution does not automatically make every reproduction lawful. Contributors remain responsible for ensuring that their use of third-party material is permitted.
7. Copyright Complaints and Reports
If you believe that content published on x_O infringes your copyright or other intellectual property rights, you may submit a report through our Contact Us page.
Please include sufficient information to help us identify and assess the reported material, such as:
- Your name and contact information.
- Identification of the copyrighted work or material you own or are authorized to represent.
- The URL or location of the allegedly infringing content on x_O.
- An explanation of why you believe the material infringes your rights.
- Evidence of ownership or authorization, where reasonably available.
- Any additional information that may help us review the complaint.
Please make sure that your report is accurate and submitted in good faith.
We may contact you for clarification or additional information if necessary.
8. Review and Response to Copyright Reports
After receiving a copyright complaint, x_O may take reasonable steps to assess the report.
Depending on the circumstances, we may:
- Request additional information from the reporting party.
- Contact the relevant contributor for an explanation.
- Temporarily restrict access to the reported material while reviewing the complaint.
- Remove or modify content where appropriate.
- Request that the contributor provide evidence of permission or licensing.
- Take further action in accordance with our Content Moderation Policy and Terms of Use.
We aim to handle copyright complaints fairly and consider the information provided by all relevant parties.
Submitting a complaint does not automatically guarantee removal. However, x_O may restrict or remove content when the available information reasonably indicates that doing so is appropriate.
9. Counter-Reports and Disputes
If your content has been restricted or removed following a copyright complaint and you believe the action was mistaken, you may contact x_O through our Contact Us page.
Please provide:
- The URL or title of the affected content.
- An explanation of why you believe the content does not infringe copyright.
- Relevant permission, license, ownership information, or other supporting evidence.
We may reconsider the matter based on the information received.
x_O reserves the right to maintain restrictions or removal where the circumstances or available evidence justify that decision.
10. Account Closure and Published Content
Closing or deleting an x_O account does not automatically remove articles or other content that the member previously published.
As explained in our Terms of Use:
- The member loses access to their account and associated member features.
- Previously published articles may remain publicly available.
- Existing author attribution may remain under the same display name.
- The author profile link may be removed, and a notation may be added to indicate that the account is no longer active.
A request to remove a specific article or post must be submitted separately through the applicable content removal process.
Account closure does not automatically revoke the license previously granted to x_O for content that remains published on the platform.
11. Content Removal and Residual Copies
If a request to remove an article or post is approved, x_O will take the necessary steps to remove it from public access and the relevant active content systems.
x_O does not intend to maintain separate content archives of articles or posts that have been removed as part of its normal content-retention practices.
However, copies of content may temporarily remain in technical systems used to operate and maintain the platform, including databases, backups, system logs, or hosting infrastructure.
Handling and removing these residual copies may take additional time and will generally take longer than 24 hours. The time required may vary depending on the system in which a copy is held and the technical processes involved. Such copies may remain until they are overwritten, expire, or are removed through the relevant maintenance and data-retention processes.
We do not promise that every residual technical copy will be immediately or simultaneously erased from all systems.
This does not mean that x_O intends to restore removed content to public access or continue using it for ordinary publication or promotion.
Third parties may independently collect, crawl, cache, index, copy, quote, or archive content that was publicly available on x_O. Examples include search engines, Internet Archive, web crawlers, and other indexing or archiving services.
We cannot guarantee the removal of copies held independently by those third parties. Where appropriate, you may need to contact the relevant service directly to request removal of cached pages, archived copies, search results, or other independently stored material.
For more information, please refer to our Request Content Removal or Anonymization page.
12. Platform-Owned Materials
Unless otherwise stated, the x_O name, logo, branding, website design, original platform graphics, and other materials created for the platform belong to x_O or their respective rights holders.
You may not reproduce, distribute, modify, or commercially exploit platform-owned materials without appropriate authorization, except where permitted by applicable law.
This section does not grant x_O ownership of original content submitted by members.
13. Repeat Infringement and Misuse
x_O may take appropriate action against members who repeatedly or knowingly submit content that infringes the rights of others.
Depending on the circumstances, actions may include:
- Removing or restricting reported content.
- Issuing a warning.
- Temporarily limiting publishing privileges.
- Suspending or closing an account.
- Taking other reasonable measures under our Terms of Use and Content Moderation Policy.
We may also take action where a copyright reporting process is deliberately abused or used to harass, intimidate, or unfairly restrict another contributor.
14. No Guarantee of Legal Advice
This policy explains how x_O generally handles copyright and intellectual property matters. It does not constitute legal advice or replace applicable copyright laws.
Contributors and rights holders are responsible for understanding their legal rights and obligations.
Nothing in this policy is intended to exclude rights or protections that cannot legally be excluded under applicable law.
