Privacy & Personal Stories Policy

x_O welcomes personal stories, experiences, reflections, opinions, and other contributions that help people share their perspectives with the community.

Personal stories can be meaningful, informative, and valuable. However, publishing personal experiences may also involve private information about the author or other individuals.

This policy explains how to approach personal information when publishing on x_O and what members should understand before sharing personal stories.

1. Personal Stories Are Welcome

You may publish personal experiences, reflections, opinions, and stories about everyday life.

Examples include:

  • Personal experiences and life lessons.
  • Family and relationship stories.
  • Workplace and professional experiences.
  • Business and customer experiences.
  • Educational experiences.
  • Personal challenges and achievements.
  • Travel and lifestyle stories.
  • Opinions about events or situations you have experienced.

You are free to decide how much of your personal experience you want to share.

However, you should consider the potential consequences before making private information publicly available.

2. Understand What Public Publishing Means

Content published on x_O may be accessible to anyone who visits the website.

Publicly available content may also be:

  • Indexed by search engines.
  • Shared through social media.
  • Quoted by other websites.
  • Copied or downloaded by visitors.
  • Collected by automated crawlers.
  • Cached or archived by third-party services.

Even if you later remove an article from x_O, copies independently collected by third parties may continue to exist.

Please do not assume that publishing under a pseudonym or removing an article later will guarantee complete anonymity.

3. Use of Real Names and Pseudonyms

Members may use an appropriate display name or pseudonym where supported by the platform.

A pseudonym can help separate your public writing identity from your personal identity, but it does not guarantee anonymity.

Your identity may still be revealed through:

  • Information included in your articles.
  • Photographs or uploaded media.
  • Personal details mentioned in your stories.
  • Links to other accounts or websites.
  • Information independently known to readers.
  • Technical or legal processes where disclosure is permitted or required.

Avoid including identifying information if you do not want readers to connect your articles with your offline identity.

4. Protect Other People’s Privacy

When writing about another person, consider their privacy and personal rights.

Do not publish private or sensitive information about someone without appropriate authorization or a lawful basis.

Examples include:

  • Home addresses and private contact details.
  • Personal identification numbers.
  • Private financial or medical information.
  • Private messages or correspondence.
  • Confidential workplace or business information.
  • Sensitive family matters.
  • Information that could expose someone to harassment, stalking, fraud, or other harm.

Publicly known information should also be presented responsibly and in the proper context.

5. Stories Involving Family, Friends, and Relationships

Personal stories sometimes involve other people who have not agreed to be part of a public article.

Before publishing such stories:

  • Consider whether the person’s identity needs to be revealed.
  • Avoid unnecessary identifying details.
  • Do not publish private conversations without appropriate authorization.
  • Be careful with photographs and personal documents.
  • Avoid exposing children or vulnerable individuals.
  • Consider whether the information could cause unnecessary harm.

You can often communicate the meaning of a personal experience without revealing every private detail.

6. Workplace, Business, and Customer Experiences

Members may share experiences involving employers, colleagues, customers, businesses, products, and services.

However, contributors should take care not to disclose:

  • Trade secrets.
  • Confidential business information.
  • Customer records.
  • Employee personal information.
  • Private contracts or internal communications.
  • Information protected by legal or contractual obligations.

Criticism and personal accounts are welcome, but serious factual allegations should be supported by appropriate information and presented responsibly.

7. Sensitive Personal Information

Think carefully before publishing information relating to:

  • Health and medical conditions.
  • Financial circumstances.
  • Family or relationship difficulties.
  • Personal identification.
  • Religious or political beliefs.
  • Private employment matters.
  • Other information that could expose you or someone else to discrimination, exploitation, or unwanted attention.

You are not required to disclose sensitive personal information to make a personal story meaningful.

8. Children and Vulnerable Individuals

Take particular care when publishing stories involving children or vulnerable individuals.

Avoid revealing unnecessary identifying information, personal circumstances, images, or details that could expose them to harm.

Do not publish content that exploits, endangers, or violates the rights of children or vulnerable individuals.

Where appropriate, obtain authorization from the legally responsible person before sharing identifiable information.

9. Photographs, Documents, and Other Personal Media

Before uploading photographs, screenshots, recordings, or documents, check whether they contain information that should remain private.

Pay attention to:

  • Names and contact information.
  • Addresses and location details.
  • Identification documents.
  • Financial or medical records.
  • Private conversations.
  • Faces of people who have not agreed to be featured.
  • Metadata or other identifying information embedded in files.

Make sure you have the necessary rights and authorization to publish the material.

10. Requests for Editing, Anonymization, or Removal

If you have published a personal story and later want to change or remove it, you may submit a request through our Request Content Removal or Anonymization page.

Depending on the circumstances, you may request:

  • Correction of personal information.
  • Removal of identifying details.
  • Anonymization of a person mentioned in an article.
  • Removal of an image or other personal media.
  • Removal of a specific article or post.

We will review requests based on the circumstances, applicable policies, legal obligations, and the rights of relevant parties.

Submitting a request does not automatically guarantee that every requested change will be approved.

11. Account Closure Does Not Automatically Remove Articles

Closing or deleting your x_O account removes your access to account features.

However, articles previously published through your account may remain publicly available.

The author display name may remain visible, with an appropriate notation indicating that the account is inactive and/or without a link to the author profile.

If you want a specific article removed or anonymized, you must submit a separate request.

12. What Happens After Content Is Approved for Removal?

When a removal request is approved, x_O will take the necessary steps to remove the relevant content from public access and the applicable active content systems.

x_O does not intend to maintain separate content archives of removed articles or posts as part of its normal content-retention practices.

However, copies may temporarily remain in technical systems used to operate and maintain the platform, including databases, backups, system logs, or hosting infrastructure.

Handling and removing these residual copies may take additional time and will generally take longer than 24 hours.

Such copies may remain until they are overwritten, expire, or are removed through the relevant maintenance and data-retention processes.

We do not promise that every residual technical copy will be immediately or simultaneously erased from all systems.

Third parties may independently collect, cache, index, copy, or archive content that was previously publicly available on x_O.

We cannot guarantee that those independently stored copies will be removed when the original content is removed.

You may need to contact the relevant third-party service directly to request removal of its copy.

13. Requests Made by People Mentioned in an Article

You do not need to be the original author to report a privacy concern involving information about you.

If an article published on x_O contains your personal information and you believe that its publication violates your privacy or rights, you may contact us.

Please provide:

  • The URL or title of the relevant article.
  • A description of the information that concerns you.
  • An explanation of why you believe the information should be corrected, anonymized, or removed.
  • Relevant supporting information where appropriate.

We may request additional information or reasonable verification before taking action.

We will assess the request in context and in accordance with applicable law and our policies.

14. Our Approach to Personal Stories

We want x_O to remain a place where people can share meaningful experiences without unnecessary restrictions.

At the same time, freedom to tell a personal story does not mean unrestricted permission to expose another person’s private information or create avoidable harm.

We encourage members to write openly, but thoughtfully.

15. Changes to This Policy

We may update this policy as our publishing practices and privacy requirements develop.

The latest version will be published on x_O with its updated date.

16. Contact Us

For privacy concerns involving personal stories, requests for anonymization, or other related matters, please contact us through our Contact Us page.

You may also use the Request Content Removal or Anonymization page to submit a specific request.
