Content Moderation Policy

x_O is a community publishing platform built around open participation, freedom of expression, and responsible sharing.

We believe that people should have the opportunity to express ideas, share experiences, publish opinions, and contribute useful information without unnecessary barriers.

At the same time, an open publishing environment requires reasonable safeguards to protect members, readers, contributors, and the wider community.

This policy explains how x_O approaches content moderation, handles reports, and responds to content or behavior that may violate our rules.

1. Our Moderation Principles

Our moderation approach is guided by the following principles:

Open participation

We welcome contributions from registered members and encourage a wide range of subjects, perspectives, and writing styles.

Good-faith publishing

We generally operate on the assumption that members submit content in good faith. Ordinary articles may be published without prior editorial review.

Freedom of expression

We support discussion, criticism, disagreement, satire, personal opinions, and the sharing of different viewpoints, provided they do not violate applicable rules or laws.

Accountability

Authors are responsible for the content they publish, including its accuracy, sources, permissions, and potential impact on others.

Fairness and proportionality

We aim to assess reported content fairly and take actions proportionate to the nature and seriousness of the issue.

Transparency

We seek to make our moderation principles and processes understandable to members and readers.

2. Publication Without Routine Prior Review

Most ordinary member submissions may be published without prior editorial approval.

This approach reflects our belief in community participation and the presumption of good faith.

However, publication does not mean that x_O has independently verified every statement, reference, image, or claim contained in an article.

It also does not mean that x_O endorses the opinions or conclusions expressed by the author.

Some content may require additional review before publication, particularly when it presents significant legal, safety, privacy, copyright, or other risks.

x_O may also review published content after receiving a report or identifying a potential problem.

3. Content That May Be Restricted or Removed

We may review, restrict, edit, or remove content that:

  • Violates applicable laws or regulations.
  • Infringes copyright, trademarks, or other intellectual property rights.
  • Reveals private or confidential information without proper authorization.
  • Contains threats, targeted harassment, or credible encouragement of violence.
  • Promotes fraud, scams, impersonation, or other deceptive activities.
  • Contains malicious software, harmful links, or instructions intended to compromise systems.
  • Deliberately spreads fabricated information in a harmful or deceptive manner.
  • Contains defamatory allegations or serious accusations presented without an adequate basis.
  • Exploits, endangers, or sexually abuses children or vulnerable individuals.
  • Contains spam, repetitive promotional material, or manipulative activity.
  • Attempts to disrupt the platform or interfere with other members’ ability to use it.
  • Violates these policies, our Terms of Use, or other applicable x_O rules.

The presence of controversial opinions, criticism, satire, or disagreement alone does not automatically make content subject to removal.

4. High-Risk Content and Special Review

Although ordinary articles may be published without prior review, x_O may apply additional checks to submissions that present heightened risks.

Examples may include:

  • Serious allegations against identifiable individuals or organizations.
  • Content involving private, sensitive, or potentially identifying information.
  • Material that may expose someone to physical, financial, or reputational harm.
  • Potentially unlawful material.
  • Content involving children or vulnerable individuals.
  • Significant copyright or intellectual property concerns.
  • Content involving dangerous instructions or serious public safety issues.

Depending on the circumstances, x_O may request clarification, supporting evidence, permission, or other relevant information before allowing publication.

Additional review does not automatically mean that the content will be rejected.

5. Reporting Content and Community Issues

Members and readers may report content or behavior they believe violates x_O policies.

Reports may concern:

  • Copyright infringement.
  • Privacy violations or unauthorized disclosure of personal information.
  • Harassment, threats, or abusive behavior.
  • False, misleading, or potentially harmful content.
  • Fraud, scams, spam, or deceptive promotion.
  • Dangerous or unlawful material.
  • Other violations of Community Standards.

Please provide the relevant article URL, a clear description of the concern, and supporting information where available.

Reports can be submitted through our Report Content & Community Issues page or the available reporting options on the platform.

6. How We Handle Reports

When we receive a report, we may take the following steps:

  1. Identify the reported content or behavior.
  2. Review the report and the available supporting information.
  3. Assess the issue under the relevant x_O policies.
  4. Contact the author or reporting party for clarification when necessary.
  5. Decide whether further action is appropriate.

Depending on the nature and urgency of the issue, we may restrict access to content while the review is ongoing.

Not every report will result in removal. We consider the available evidence, context, applicable rules, and potential impact.

7. Possible Moderation Actions

Depending on the circumstances, x_O may:

  • Take no action when a report is unsupported or does not establish a policy violation.
  • Ask the author to clarify, correct, or update the content.
  • Request additional sources, references, or evidence.
  • Request permission or proof of licensing for third-party material.
  • Add a correction, clarification, or notice where appropriate.
  • Temporarily restrict access while reviewing a serious concern.
  • Remove or permanently restrict the reported content.
  • Disable specific publishing or account features.
  • Issue a warning to the member.
  • Temporarily suspend an account.
  • Close an account in serious or repeated cases.

We aim to choose measures that are reasonable and proportionate to the issue.

8. Editorial Changes and Content Corrections

x_O may make reasonable technical or formatting adjustments to published content.

Examples include:

  • Correcting formatting or display issues.
  • Fixing broken links where appropriate.
  • Adjusting image dimensions or file formats.
  • Correcting obvious typographical errors.
  • Adding notices or clarifications where necessary.

Substantive changes to an author’s work should generally be handled transparently and, where appropriate, in consultation with the author.

For significant factual corrections, please refer to our Editorial Corrections policy.

9. Author Responsibility

Authors remain responsible for the content they submit and publish.

This includes responsibility for:

  • The accuracy and fairness of factual statements.
  • Providing references for claims where appropriate.
  • Respecting copyright and intellectual property rights.
  • Protecting the privacy of others.
  • Disclosing sponsorships, advertising relationships, and affiliate links.
  • Updating or correcting content when necessary.

The fact that an article has been published on x_O does not automatically make it an official statement or verified position of the platform.

10. Appeals and Requests for Reconsideration

If your content has been restricted or removed and you believe the decision was mistaken, you may contact x_O and request reconsideration.

Please include:

  • The affected article URL or content title.
  • A description of the action you are appealing.
  • Your reasons for believing the action was incorrect.
  • Any relevant supporting information.

We may review the decision and determine whether the action should be maintained, modified, or reversed.

Submitting an appeal does not guarantee that content will be restored.

11. Abuse of Reporting Tools

Reporting tools are intended to identify genuine concerns and protect the community.

Do not use them to:

  • Harass or intimidate other members.
  • Suppress legitimate criticism or disagreement.
  • Submit knowingly false complaints.
  • Repeatedly report content without a reasonable basis.
  • Manipulate moderation decisions for personal or commercial advantage.

x_O may take appropriate action against members who deliberately misuse reporting mechanisms.

12. Emergency and Serious Safety Concerns

Where content presents an apparent and immediate risk to personal safety, security, or other serious harm, x_O may take urgent protective action.

Such action may include restricting access to the content, suspending relevant account features, or referring the matter to appropriate authorities where required or legally justified.

13. Third-Party Content and External Platforms

Articles published on x_O may contain links, embedded materials, or references to external websites and services.

We do not control all third-party content or guarantee its accuracy, availability, or safety.

If you identify a problem involving an external resource, you may report it to us. However, removal or modification of material hosted by another service may require contacting that service directly.

14. Changes to This Policy

We may update this policy when our platform, moderation practices, or applicable requirements change.

The latest version will be published on x_O with its updated date.

15. Contact Us

For moderation questions, content reports, or requests for reconsideration, please contact us through our Contact Us page.

You may also use the Report Content & Community Issues page to submit a specific report.
